FarmersHub Trivandrum worked on a vertical garden irrigation automation project at KIMS Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Vertical gardens arrange many plant pockets across a wall, making reliable, scheduled watering particularly important for regular maintenance.

Project scope and automation components

  • Irrigation timer: scheduled watering to reduce the need for manual switching.
  • Solenoid valve: electrically operated valve for timer-based water-flow control.
  • Pressure motor/pump: provides water pressure for distribution to the vertical planting area.
  • Drip irrigation distribution: pipework and irrigation components to deliver water to the planted pockets.
  • System integration: coordination of watering control, valve, pump and field irrigation lines.

The project uses components associated with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Jain Irrigation, Kisan Irrigation and V-Guard, as identified by the FarmersHub project team. The exact component models and technical settings depend on site requirements.

Why automate a vertical garden?

Vertical gardens need consistent attention across several planting rows. A correctly configured timer, solenoid valve and pressure pump can make regular watering more manageable. Drip irrigation helps place water close to plant roots, while scheduled operation helps reduce dependence on manual watering. Irrigation durations and intervals must be tailored to the plant mix, season, drainage and available water pressure.
